OFFICE PDX supports PICA’s annual gala TADA

By admin on April 26th, 2010

OFFICE PDX attended the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art’s annual Gala last night, called TADA (as in “ta-da” we are announcing the line up for the 2010 Time Based Arts Festival). I’m also on the board but last night I went on behalf of Twenty Four Seven, while Tony was there representing OFFICE PDX.

OFFICE put together a pretty cool package for their silent auction called Work It. It included everything you need for your home business / project / hobby: a major discount on a fab blu dot desk and chair, complimentary graphic design services, wholesale pricing from our favorite Portland printers, Brown Printing + a special email marketing package from Emma. None other than Nicole Vogel, the fearless leader and owner behind magazine publishing house, Saga City (publishers of Portland Monthly, to name a few), walked away with the items. Thanks, Nicole!

The space was packed at “post 419″ at The Bison Building (owned by Twenty Four Seven) with more than 300 of Portland’s design leaders, artists and patrons. There were several tables by Nike, including one hosted by fellow PICA board member, Michael Shea and his wife Kelly Tweeden, also a Creative Director (who was one of the panelists at OFFICE’s Women in Design event in March). Heavy hitters from Wieden + Kennedy were there, too, such as Dan Wieden and John Jay, along with companies like the ever fabulous Laika (PICA board member Kirk Kelley is our current PICA board President, in fact), Boora Architecture, Holst Architecture, PNCA, Nau, more Nike (the event was co-chaired by Tim and Juliana Hershey), blog diva Lisa Radon and her super stylish Portland Center Stage / drummer hubby Tim DuRoche.

The items were amazing this year – really arts focused across visual, dance, performance and music. The item that everyone lost their minds for was the private party for 100 or so people the night before TBA as a “sing along” with Rufus Wainwright and Thomas Lauderdale. Seriously, someone at our table was standing on her chair screaming at the auctioneer to make sure that she saw her number!

Storm Tharp donated a special little fashion piece as well, which was lovely. His prints are absolutely unforgettable. Seriously amazing – we are talking The Whitney!

All in all, the board, the community and the wonderful staff at PICA outdid themselves. My only regret was not taking more photos — great paper flower interiors and some amazing outfits / pieces like Bruce Carey’s red and white stripe graphic tie and PICA’s own Victoria Frey’s smoking hot white dress.

I did have some fun supporting PICA and winning voodoo donuts for the table as part of their live auction item — which was an on-the-spot delivery of a platter for all. The photo below shows OFFICE PDX’s creative director, Tony Secolo, taking a bite of the Captain Crunch donut while pal  Jeff Selis, from W+K, enjoys (?) his grape Kool-Aid topped donut.

A great night in Portland and for the Arts!

DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE POSTER ON SALE AUG 26

By kelly on August 8th, 2009

Apologies dear readers, for not blogging (weekly blogs will be posted every Wed evening, starting next week; hump-day, what can we say?) but we have been very busy. Busy sourcing new product, busy designing logos for the likes of the City of Portland’s Summer Youth Corp Program and Bridge Partners Consulting, busy with a few birthdays (we did celebrate both at BEAST, two spectacular meals) and busy getting ready for our upcoming 4TH ANNIVERSARY PARTY which also coincides with our 1ST POP UP RETAIL EVENT on Wed Aug 26 @ none other than oh-so-fabulous photography studio, SANDBOX STUDIO, right here in Portland @ 420 NE 9th Avenue.

This leads us to our next point – which is that at the 4TH ANNIVERSARY PARTY — on Wed August 26th from 7 to 9 PM – you will have the opportunity to buy the limited edition poster shown below. In fact, we are showcasing lots of new product from ICFF, new locally made-in-Portland product, art by MATTE STEPHENS and two new prints designed by OFFICE PDX, one of which is the DCFC poster shown below (both printed at Seizure Palace, right here in Portland).

New prints, you say? Why, yes! For Sale @ the OFFICE PARTY and online the next day…

The first one is a very limited edition poster – as in there are only 35 for sale – that was designed by TONY for OFFICE PDX for the fine band DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE. This amazing, 2-color poster (black and silver metallic) is a simple typographic treatment commemorating their July 17, 2009 concert at McMenamin’s Edgefield (concert review here), with Ra Ra Riot and The New Pornographers (Thank you Demy and Walla for the backstage passes).

This beautiful poster can be yours for only $20, for sale starting August 26, at our anniversary/pop up retail party. Good until supplies last (they will go fast so arrive at 7 PM!). Silk screened on cream recycled paper (100 # cover), using vintage wood type.

The second soon-to-make-its-debut is a black / white / red print ( inspired by Tony’s sell-out art show — our best selling show yet — “The Typography of Typewriters”), called “Royal in Red” . The design celebrates a vintage typewriter through Trade Gothic type faces. You’ll have to stay tuned for a photo of that one, as it’s still at the shop.

The sales run from SAT JUNE 13 – SAT JUNE 20 (first come, first served of course). OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW

By kelly on June 9th, 2009

OFFICE PDX is delighted to announce a total reinvention — check out our new business cards and the all new www.officepdx.com!

Starting June 21, 2009 we are moving to a new format: online store, pop-up retailer, creators of our own branded paper goods, and providing graphic design for some pretty amazing clients. So, yes, this does mean that we are closing our bricks-and-mortar store on NE Alberta Street on June 20th, so we can launch the new and improved (and mobile) OFFICE PDX.

But, not to fear, for those who live in (or are visiting) Portland, Oregon – you’ll have the chance to see us every last Wednesday (starting Wed Aug 26) for our new POP UP RETAIL EVENTS as we showcase fantastic new product and amazing art along with our acclaimed panel events — hosted at some of the best design firms in Portland. It’s going to be a crazy mash-up of all things design…and we hope that you’ll join us. All of events are listed on our site in the new event section, listed here.

So, please save the date for Wednesday August 26th to attend the first OFFICE PDX pop-up retail event, which coincides nicely with our 4th Anniversary party. And, yes, dear readers, we promise you lots of delicious cocktails.

Stay connected with OFFICE PDX and check in with us often through our Facebook, Twitter and Flickr pages, and this new OFFICE MEMO blog.

And, last but not least – thanks for being patient with us as we continue to upload information and tons of new product on all of those sites, including our own, throughout June.

Cheers – (see photo below of the new bus cards)

Fondly, Your Pal,

OFFICE PDX
